Oh, can you believe; it is finally getting over. What a year.

Tata Nexon become a cornerstone in the electric vehicle movement in India is now underlined by the fact that 2,000 units of the EV have been sold here in a little over 10 months since being launched. The sales of the Nexon EV reached 2200 units last month.


According to Autocar, Ian Howells - Senior Vice President of Honda Motor Europe - said that Honda will stop selling ICE cars in Europe in 2022. “It [Honda’s line-up] will be a combination of full electric and hybrid. Obviously, if the legislation starts to move as we approach 2035, or transitions away from hybrid as well, then we’ll move our technology away from that.”


During a December 1st House Meeting, Prime Minister Ardern stated that all Government entities would be purchasing EVs exclusively moving forward as she declared a climate emergency. Ardern says that New Zealand has also started phasing out coal boilers in its ministries and agencies, which are used to heat water and buildings in the State Sector. More sustainable options will be funded through New Zealand’s $200 million State Sector Decarbonization Fund.


The buses are delivered as a part of the larger order of 340 electric buses from BEST under the government of India's FAME II initiative. The remaining buses will be delivered in a phased manner as per schedule. Tata Motors will be undertaking building, deployment, maintaining and operation of the complete charging infrastructure along with the buses across four Mumbai depots- Backbay, Worli, Malvani and Shivaji Nagar. Moreover, Tata Power will be also contributing by taking complete charge of upstream and downstream electrical facilities including supplies and shall also be responsible for the complete bus charging facility.


The Tesla Model 3 has hit some serious stride in China, with recent data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) showing that the electric car maker has sold 21,604 units of the all-electric sedan domestically in November. That represents a rise of about 78% compared to Model 3 sales in October, when Tesla sold 12,143 units in China.


Piaggo India CEO and Managing Director Diego Graffi has confirmed that a new electric scooter under the Vespa name will be launched in India. Speaking to media persons in an online interaction, Graffi said that the electric scooter will be based on the Vespa Elettrica already available in Europe, but will be made specifically for the Indian market.


Twin sisters Nishita and Nikita Baliarsingh launched an EV battery startup that upcycles agricultural waste. “We procure the unburnt crop remains and manufacture rechargeable energy-storing cells from this by applying a unique extraction and filtration process. Multiple such cells go into making the IoT and AI-based sensor-enabled battery pack used in EVs,” Nikita says.


“The current tests show a significant improvement in the energy density and driving range. The Nexus batteries also offer 8x–10x faster charging. The team is still working on the R&D to make the composition more efficient to derive better results. The crude form is promising and we are looking forward to building the MVP (minimum viable product) in the coming months,” she adds. The price of Nexus' biodegradable battery is yet to be decided, but it is expected to cost 30 to 40 percent lesser than Li-on batteries.


"We have been transitioning to green mobility since early this year and every vehicle added since February 2020 has been electric. We approximately have 6,000 scooters and 50% of these are electric," Bounce CEO and co-founder Vivekananda Hallekere told PTI. The company has built strategic partnerships with several OEMs in the electric and battery space to achieve this green vision.


President Joko Widodo has touted Indonesia’s nickel reserves on a number of occasions, telling Reuters last month that “it’s very important because we have a great plan to make Indonesia the biggest producer of lithium batteries and we have the biggest nickel (reserves).”


The president and Luhut Pandjaitan, the coordinating minister for maritime and investment, were on a call with Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Friday to discuss “investment opportunities from electric vehicles company Tesla in Indonesia,” the ministry said.


The 10 MWh mega inverter set up at Rohini can feed around 2,500 "special customers" providing essential services like hospitals, Delhi Jal Board, Delhi Metro and schools among others. After Rohini, a similar facility is coming up in North Delhi's Rani Bagh, and there are plans to have similar but smaller facilities in every neighborhood in the future, the spokesperson said.


Ola’s factory will also cater to markets in Europe, Asia and Latin America, among others, the company said. The manufacturing facility will be completed in around 18 months and aims to sell around one million vehicles in its first year. Though Ola plans to roll out its scooters first, company executives say that they will venture into other categories of two, three and even four-wheelers eventually.


The Okinawa Oki100 electric motorcycle, which was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo, will be launched by March 2021, Jeetender Sharma, Founder and MD, Okinawa. The Oki100 will have a top speed of around 120 kmph, and even when used with full performance, the claimed range will be around 150 km on a single charge. The Oki100 is expected to get swappable lithium-ion batteries, and state-of-the-art features, including geo-fencing, built-in satellite navigation, over-the-air updates and more.


Tesla has updated the Model 3. The new Standard Range + is the cheapest available in the UK and now comes with a nicer, quieter interior, double glazed windows, longer range, improved efficiency and arguably better looks. Check out Rory's Christmas-themed Review to find out more.



The P2P trading platform’s first 12 participants would comprise nine customers with rooftop solar (prosumers) and three customers without rooftop solar (net buyers), identified in consultation with MVVNL. The participants will engage in mock trading (no money transactions) for the next three months, during which ISGF will try out different trading algorithms.


“The pilot project will demonstrate the feasibility of rooftop solar energy trading through smart contracts on the blockchain platform between prosumers and their neighboring households. Power Ledger’s platform integrates the transaction data from the smart meters to enable households to set prices, track energy trading in real-time and enable the settlement of surplus solar energy transactions,” ISGF president Reji Kumar Pillai said.


The record-breaking tariff of ₹1.99 (~$0.0270)/kWh was quoted by NTPC Limited for 200 MW, Torrent Power Limited for 100 MW, Al Jomaih Energy and Water Company Limited for 80 MW, and Aditya Renewables for 120 MW (under the bucket filling method), respectively.

"We are launching Sun Mobility Battery Swapping Network for electric vehicles in Bengaluru. This e-autorickshaw, which was developed in the city, will help reduce pollution. The government will give a subsidy of ₹ 42,000 on its cost," Mr Yediyurappa said. He added that once people like the e-vehicles, they will start using them. The EV battery-swapping project is meant to ensure clean last-mile connectivity for Bengaluru.


"A full battery allows each e-vehicle to run for 80km. The battery swapping stations will enable e-vehicles to run for a longer period of time as you can just swap the discharged battery in 2 minutes and travel another 80km. We plan to create 100 battery swapping stations and this infrastructure is going to be spread across the city," Sandeep Maini, the Director of Sun Mobility, said.


EESL intends to procure 200 four-wheeled electric sedans with a range greater than 180 km and 300 four-wheeled electric cars less than four meters in length with a range of 250 km and above. Interested bidders are expected to make an earnest money deposit (EMD) of ₹13.2 million (~$178,777) cumulatively, of which ₹4.7 million (~$63,656) is for lot 1, and ₹8.5 million (~$115,122) is for lot 2. The deadline for bid submission is February 5, 2021.


The Tiger Electric is powered by a state-of-the-art IP67 compliant 25.5 kW natural cooling compact battery and the company states that it constitutes one-fourth of the running costs when compared the traditionally used diesel. The Tiger Electric tractor can be fully charged using a regular home charging point in 10 hours. The German design motor ensures 100 per cent torque availability at all times. The company has launched the tractor at an introductory price of ₹ 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and the company has commenced bookings across the country.


During the conversation with Indian Express editors, the minister underlined the push for electrical cars in the country and said a lot of Indian companies were also working on electrical vehicles that might be more affordable, but technically as advanced as the Tesla. He said Tesla will start operations first with sales and then maybe look at assembly and manufacturing based on the response to the cars. “India is going to become a number 1 manufacturing hub for auto in five years,” Gadkari added.


Coal India Limited (CIL) has received approval from its board to venture into the solar power value chain and aluminum value chain. Last month, CIL announced that it would invest ₹56.50 billion ($763 million) by March 2024 to develop 14 solar power projects to help power its mining operations. As per the report, the state-owned company will fund nearly two-thirds of the total capacity of 3 GW of rooftop and ground-mounted solar projects. The company would also enter into a joint venture with NLC India and fund the rest of its solar expansion plans.
